PLASTER ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS AND HIGH RELIEFS

As part of the complete renovation of the Basilica, all plaster details had to be restored. A unique example of Romanesque architecture in the United States, the interior was graced with delicate plasterwork painted in a uniform and uninspiring light cream color. Our goal was to revive the interior space and enhance all architectural details. The high relief of the Assumption of Mary in the back of the sanctuary is now in warm and lively tones of gold, giving it much-needed dimension. The two niches on the side of the sanctuary were repainted in harmonious complementary colors that bring life to the marble statuary, the Roman and Corinthian columns, capitals and adorning angels.
