INFANT OF PRAGUE STATUE RESTORATION
 

When this antique Infant Jesus of Prague statue came to us from a private client, our artists carefully assessed its delicate condition: the crown was broken, the hand holding the globe was dislocated, and its paint was dark and faded. After removing the globe, we repaired the damaged hand and then placed the globe back in its careful grasp. The statue was primed and realistic flesh-toned oil colors were applied to the face and hands, bringing it back to life. We painted the imperial robe a deep burgundy while its magnificent details and intricate lace edging were enhanced with gold highlights and a warm cream. The globus cruciger, or orb and cross—previously undistinguishable—now stands out in a lively azure and gold. Lastly, a resplendent gold crown decrees the regal nature of this statue.
